A Scrap Bin Remix
Cthulhu Alpha used to have a different form. He was once a giant spider with a humanoid body and stupid looking face with weird, bulging eyes; his body was so massive that his legs could not support his weight, and he would fall down like a drunkard with vertigo. This so angered the Creator that he was cast down and banished to the scrap bin for nearly a millenia. A year or so after that, the Creator took pity on him and pulled him from the pile of tangled metal of failed wire experiments in the depths of the bucket that had become his world....
The Creator went to work. He knew his creation could be salvaged. After some careful deliberation, he knew what must be done. First, he cut off the spider's abdomen, which was made mostly of aluminum foil and electrical tape (what is this, amateur hour?), and destroyed it. Then, he bent the ex-spider's legs in different directions and decided that they would make better tentacles than legs. Next, he went to work on the stupid-looking face with the bulged eyes. Removing the eyes was no real feat, they popped off the head like grapes from a vine. He pulled out the sorry-looking mandibles and unraveled the head completely, until it was nothing more than a bunch of stray wire strands. Reforming the head took time and effort, and the Creator decided to try out a new technique he had been working on - the once stupid-looking face was now bursting with dozens of red tentacles (also some flat, silvery eyes). He had created some kind of tentacle monster. Satisfied for now, the Creator took a break for several months.
The tentacle monster remained just that for a while, a tentacle monster. One day, the Creator got a wild hair up his ass and felt compelled to give the tentacle monster wings made of wire. A painstaking process that had more failures than triumphs, creating wire wings was no easy process. The Creator had made wire wings before, but they were small, maybe even vestigial, but nowhere near the scale that these wings were to be. Eventually, after half a dozen attempts in as many days, the wings were finished. And they were glorious.
Even then, tentacles, wings and all, the Creator had know idea what it was that he was about to unleash into the world... it wasn't until a random stranger saw the creature and said the word: "Cthulhu." And so it was, the Creator realized, and so shall it remain.
However, Cthulhu always seemed unfinished to the Creator. There was more that needed to be done... but not until years later....
* The ball bearing chrome dome is certainly not made of wire; spiral eyes are steel wire, not copper, but do you really care?
